The New Mexico National Guard provides various employment opportunities to include both Federal and State of New Mexico Civil service employment.

New Mexico National Guard Human Resources

The New Mexico National Guard Human Resources Office (HRO) provides personnel, manpower, management, and administrative support service for federal full-time personnel programs. The office serves as The Adjutant General's single span of control for managing and administering the New Mexico Army and Air National Guard full-time personnel programs. Jobs may or may not require membership in the Air or Army National Guard as employment criteria.

 Active Guard Reserve (AGR)

Active Guard Reserve (AGR): AGR soldiers serve full time and enjoy the same benefits and entitlements as active duty Soldiers. With an AGR job, you can receive full pay, medical care for you and your immediate family, and the opportunity for retirement after 20 years of active service.

Soldiers serving within the AGR program are stationed throughout the country at thousands of Army Reserve units in local communities and worldwide in positions that directly support the New Mexico National Guard.

 Federal Military Technician

Federal Military Technician: A Federal Military Technician (dual status) is a Federal civilian employee who is employed under section 3101 of title 5 or section 709 (b) of title 32. They are required as a condition of that employment to maintain membership in the New Mexico National Guard. Military Technicians are assigned to a civilian position as a technician in the administration and training of the National Guard or in the maintenance and repair of supplies or equipment issued to the National Guard or the armed forces.

 State Civil Service

The New Mexico State Personnel Department administers the recruitment, application and verifications system for state government employment vacancies within the New Mexico Department of Military Affairs.

Classified Service

Most state jobs are classified, i.e., subject to the Merit System of Personnel Administration. Classified jobs are filled on the basis of ability, as demonstrated in competitive examinations.

Unclassified Service

State jobs that are not subject to the Merit System are unclassified. There are no universal procedures for the recruitment and appointment of unclassified officers and employees, or for the terms and conditions of their employment, except for performance appraisals; practices vary from one agency to another.
