Brigadier General Andrew E. Salas assumed duties as The Adjutant General for New Mexico on July 24, 2012. As Adjutant General, he serves as senior military advisor to the Governor and is responsible for providing the State of New Mexico and the United States with a ready force of citizen soldiers and airmen.
General Salas enlisted in the New Mexico Air National Guard in 1981 and was commissioned upon graduation from the Academy of Military Science in 1987. He has served in a variety of maintenance, joint counterdrug task force, political-military, mission support and safety positions. His commands include Communications Flight, Mission Support Flight, Mission Support Group, Expeditionary Mission Support Group (Iraq), Fighter Wing Vice Commander and Air Force Safety Center Vice Commander. Prior to his current assignment, General Salas served as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Headquarters, New Mexico Air National Guard.
